Classroom Academic Teacher Aide Position

 

Position Title: Special Education Classroom Teacher Aide

Location:  Cheektowaga-Sloan Union Free School District / John F. Kennedy Middle School

Salary/Pay Scale: $17.84 an hour 

 

The successful candidate will:

Work closely with a specific student to support the student’s individualized education program and medical needs. Report to the Special Education Teacher, Principal, and Director of Special Education & Student Services.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS:

• Assist the student(s) to whom assigned in such physical tasks as putting on and taking off outerwear, moving from room to room, using the lavatory, etc., as needed.
• Assist the student(s) in curriculum tasks, guiding and reviewing previously taught material, but not responsible for initial instruction.
• Performs simple errands and tasks, if necessary, for the student(s), such as sharpening pencils, carrying lunch trays, etc.
• Accompany the student(s) to whom assigned in hallways and special areas.
• Assist the student(s) with behavioral/management needs in accordance with the student’s needs and student’s behavioral/management plan, as needed.
• Maintains professional confidentiality of all students, teacher(s), and special education student(s) activities.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the teacher, Principal, and/or Director of Special Education and Student Services to serve the District flexibility.

 

Requirements:

• High School Diploma.
• Demonstrates ability to have patience, interest in children, and be physically/emotionally able to handle rigorous programming.
• Such additional qualifications as the Director of Special Education & Student Services and/or the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
